Volunteering for CTG

Community Transport Glasgow (CTG) is actively seeking volunteers to assist in the continued successful delivery of all its services.  By assisting CTG with these opportunities you would bring real improvements to the communities in which they operate and have a positive impact on the lives of people most in need.

The Volunteering Opportunities available are:

Driver and Passenger Assistant

Please note that to become a Driving Volunteer for our minibus service you must have a ‘D1’ classification on your driving licence. This is due to the size and the weight of our vehicle fleet.  Passenger Assistants are required to escort passengers and help them on and off the minibus. Full training is provided.

Car Driver – Patient Transport

We also require volunteer drivers with or without their own cars for our new Healthy Journeys patient transport project.  Help us make a difference by taking elderly people, who have transport or other difficulties, from their homes in the North East area to various health related appointments.

The services we provide rely on the skills, experiences and talents of a pool of dedicated and committed volunteers recruited and trained by CTG.  If you are interested in volunteering with any of the services, the benefits which we can offer you are:

  • Work experience
  • Recognition for the contribution you can make to the local community
  • The chance to acquire new skills
  • A reference
  • An awareness of the difficulties other people face
  • Social interaction
  • A challenge
  • A sense of achievement and satisfaction of doing something worthwhile
  • Something to occupy or fill your time
  • A chance to give something back to the community
  • An opportunity to grow in self-confidence
  • Out of pocket expenses

There are many different qualities that volunteers can bring to our work.  These are just some that are important to us – do they describe you? CTG need volunteers who are:

  • Reliable
  • Understanding
  • Flexible
  • Supportive
  • Comfortable working as part of a team
  • Able to work under their own initiative
  • Willing to undergo training
  • Friendly
  • Good sense of humour
  • Dedicated and committed
  • Honest and trustworthy

All volunteers are interviewed, and are welcomed to CTG subject to references and a suitable Disclosure Scotland check returned (if required). Please see our FAQs for more detail.
